Our Lady of Częstochowa Icon made of metal
A unique icon with an image of Our Lady of Częstochowa. Made on a solid wood plank, the image with a halo is made of metal, additionally the edges of the icon are covered with patterned metal sheets.
The origin and date of Our Lady of Częstochowa painting are unknown, however, many legends have arisen to explain genesis of the work. One of them says that Our Lady of Częstochowa, known as the Wandering One, is one of the many artwork painted by St. Luke the Evangelist. According to legend, in the 14th century, when Prince Władysław Opolczyk was transporting painting of the Mother of God through Częstochowa, horses of his carriage stopped, not wanting to move on. Prince then decited that painting would not go to Opole, but to the monastery he founded - Pauline Fathers. On September 8, 1717, on the Nativity of the Mother of God holiday, painting was solemnly crowned with precious crowns donated by Pope Clement XI. Over the centuries, numerous miracles and healings took place before the Miraculous Picture at Jasna Góra.
